Family friendly leave
Family leave policies are a legal requirement with minimum leave and pay periods, but you can offer your employees over and above the minimum, which can be extra, attractive benefits.
What’s included in family friendly leave?
There are several different types of family friendly leave that employees may take to manage family responsibilities. These include:
- Maternity Leave – including compulsory, statutory and additional
- Paternity Leave
- Shared Parental Leave
- Adoption Leave
- Parental Leave
- Parental Bereavement Leave
- Time off for Dependants
- Bereavement or Compassionate Leave
- Neo Natal Care Leave
- Carers Leave
We can help you set up your family friendly leave policies and procedure, or we can assess what you currently have in place. We can check that you are meeting legal requirements and can advise of best practice for both you and your employees.

Flexible working
Any of your employees can ask for flexible working from the first day they’re employed by you. This is a legal right and they can ask to change:
- The numbers of hours they work
- The times they start and finish work
- Which days they work
- Where they work.
As their employer, you must deal with any requests in a ‘reasonable manner’. You can refuse a request for flexible working if you have a good business reason for doing so – but be aware that if you’re not deemed to have handled the request in a reasonable manner, you could be taken to an employment tribunal.
We can help you establish a process for flexible working request and a procedure for dealing with them, or simply advise you of best practice. All our advice related to flexible working will be in line with current legislation and designed with you to work for you and your business needs.
